Each character gets their own dedicated Story Mode route with extensive exposition via text and branching paths in between each fight that gives more insight into each character's respective journey, step by step. SCIII had the best presented Story Mode easily, no contest. Of all the Soul games to date, which one do you feel was the strongest from a story / lore viewpoint? Due to the six option limit, I'm pairing SC and SCII, since they followed a similar structure and many of SCII endings were similar to the ones in SC. The Museum is one of the most detailed to date, offering lots of data. Libra of Souls mode focuses on the player's CAS and their interactions with the cast, especially newcomers Groh and Azwel, between 15. Soul Chronicles give more insight into each character, ranging between 15. The main story covers the events between the end of SB and the end of SC, by focusing on the heroic trio vs schwarzstrom saga between 15. Most other characters had very little information in-game. SCV had its own semi-cinematic story mode, focused on the Alexander siblings 17 years after the events of IV. SCIV had cinematic endings for each main character and CAS, while bonus ones got picture & text endings. Chronicles of the Sword mode had a side story, based on a unique cast of the characters with the player's own at the centre. The Museum offered a collection of all these cinematics as they got unlocked, in addition to other stuff. SCIII was closer to SB, featuring a multi-path story for each character, with several cinematic interactions and two possible endings. Mission mode in SC and especially Weapon Master mode in SCII also had their own stories, focused on the player's character. Museum entries added further background information. SoulCalibur and SCII went for a more standard Arcade mode, with a set ending for each character. Soul Edge / Blade had an Arcade mode with two possible endings per character but also Edge Master mode, which offered an in-depth narrative of each character's journey, including details on their backgrounds, motivations, feelings and struggles. Even so, what is canon and what is not is usually only made clear in the following game(s) or in external material. Single player game modes have often had some sort of story involving each character, commonly complemented with loads of pictures, tidbits and bio information in-game. The Soul series differentiates itself from other fighting series notably for its attention to world-building, storytelling and lore.
